Winston Churchill was a poor student. Our gallery opens with a classic and ingrained case. The lazy Winston, the eldest son of aristocratic parents, had an aversion to the educational process from a very young age. It’s not that he was hopelessly stupid: teachers regularly found him in some secluded corner with a book that was too old for his age. However, Churchill categorically refused to do his homework, work in class, or even try in any way. The poor student Winston later received the Nobel Prize in Literature. “School has nothing in common with education,” Churchill wrote. “It is an institution of control, where children are taught the basic skills of community life.”
