Curious if you have any favorite international films? Though probably a huge question there šŸ˜‚

We asked open AI to recommend something based on the fact that we loved Fanny and Alexander. Here was the list: Amarcord, The Spirit of the Beehive, La Strada, Cria Cuervos, 8 1/2, The Red Shoes, Andrei Rublev (our backup), Tokyo Story, My Life as a Dog, The Tree of Wooden Clogs.

You really feel the slippery slope of one bad decision, when it’s made within the framework of multiple factors working against you.

My husband and I considered 12 films to watch. We rarely find time for a feature (our son is our main feature film). After sidelining Tarkovsky, Fellini, and others, we decided on 400 Blows, a 1950s coming of age based on the director’s life - aloof parents, mean schoolteachers, and getting into petty crime.

Haha!! Hole up and edit photos weather šŸ’™ It all makes sense now! Since we talked, i wondered if you have heard of Maggie Nelson’s short book called Bluets? It is all meditations on blue / philosophical and wistful. You may like!

I also look at the poets who the poets I like love. Go back up the chain of what they read.

I feel this too! Who needs new when you have Marina Tsvetayeva, Sappho, Adelia Prado, Anne Carson? But then, there is the occasional pleasure of finding a new love to add to the personal canon. I guess it happens like this - a lucky recommendation that strikes right for you. Though I don’t know your taste, of course.

I love Interpreter of Maladies too, so good. I started Trust by Starnone but couldn’t quite get into it. Maybe I’ll try Ties!

Wow I forgot Zadie Smith! Also picked up this, an author Ferrante loves, and it’s wonderful, if you’re into solitary island life. If Proust had been born Italian on an island and had a sense of humor, he might have written it, but Elsa did instead.
