What’s the glaze on your pottery there?

I used a matte blue glaze for this, had to give it two coats because using red clay with only one coat I could still see a bit of redness under. So I glazed again and fired again

Glaze is a mystery so I asked why?  There are so many glazes it is hard to get experience with the kiln.  If it is red clay why not a glaze of like color?  Brown red orange?  Blue might be for grey or white clay?  I am not telling you what to do for your class.  We made change bowls or ash treys in school.  It was once and done then.
