With stocks tumbling in early August, the Fed is expected to cut interest rates at the meeting to rescue the market. Inflation is likely to rise, which means there is plenty of money in the market and there is no need to cut rates immediately to release more. That signal dampened hopes that the rate will be cut only in September and beyond.
