OMFG we spent 6h on this bug and the fix is the most random shit I've ever seen in my life: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76424198/why-do-pdf-parsing-libraries-pdf2json-and-pdf-parse-seem-to-not-work-with-next-j

It’s shit like this that makes me compare building software to building a home If your home was built like software you’d never go in it, because it’ll kill you

Homes have building codes and inspectors. Certain types of software require more rigor. Think autopilot for aircraft or FDA medical devices. The vast majority of software isn’t subject to that kind of audit/compliance, which is why it moves so fast (fix it later), and why it’s often buggy. Dependencies don’t help

And yet I can build a house to spec faster than I can build a piece of stable software

Hah! Just imagine if your house had to interconnect with all the other houses for the door to open. Software is very complex, comparatively… and with dependencies it’s effectively built on a foundation of sand.
