Let’s say your house is 2000 square feet on the outside. If I go inside and sum up the surface area of all the things inside it, it will be a number greater than 2000 square feet. Another example would be water filtration, the surface area required to capture all the contaminants mechanically is much greater than the exterior dimensions of the filtration housing, so too with your internal energy system
