if you stop putting money in you can't take money out

The two statements are in conflict, or more pointedly accrued earnings shouldn’t be conditional in this fashion IMO.

how are the two statements in conflict?

rewards accrue during the time you're subscribed. its up to you to withdraw them. if you don't, and decide not to renew, your rewards are burned. that seems like the right approach for incentivizing retention imo

Fair enough. I don’t agree with that approach  but I suppose a caveat I missed in the minutia. Burn one down and move on.
