it seemed to work by keeping track of the message that gets injected into the cast. I've reselected a different crew, and the main game at least acknowledge the syntax of the direct attack command, but I'm not sure if the crew app does as well.

I’ve never been more confused, seems games on here are not for me😭

don't worry, we're very early to farcaster games being fleshed out.
