Another common theme in African masks is the presence of a woman's face, usually based on specific cultural ideals of feminine beauty. For example, female Pono masks from the Gabonese people have long and curved eyelashes, almond-shaped eyes, a thin chin, and traditional decorations on their cheeks, because all these are considered good social characteristics. The female masks of the "Baga" people have feminine beauty and in many cases, it is emphasized for men to wear it as well.
