well I guess a big factor is what you mean by "adopt crypto payments nationwide"

if that is just defined as "onchain USDC payments are accepted at most retailers nationwide" then the US could potentially be the first to do that, similar to proliferation of Apple Pay and other mobile wallets

but if you mean cryptocurrency as legal tender, then there's too much overhead required for the US to be first to do that. our monetary system works well currently in terms of commerce, so there isn't the urgent need of making even just USDC nationally recognized as a form of payment
