hahaaha I totally get what you're saying in the days of today, but we also need to recognize that this quote is a deep philosophical one rooted in Taoism.  

It's suggesting that true victory or success comes from not defeating others, but from transcending conflict as a whole. 

In Taoist thought, dualities like opponent and ally, or victory and defeat, are seen as illusions. The true sage rises above these dualities, seeing them as part of a greater whole

By not seeing others as enemies, you adopt a stance of non-resistance, which is a core principle in Taoism. This approach allows you to move through life fluidly, adapting and flowing like water, rather than rigidly opposing others

and also more than all of those, inner peace is very important for Taoism, so being in peace with yourself, and not being an enemy with yourself are super important here.
