OpenAI, the minds behind ChatGPT, are collaborating with Broadcom and TSMC to create their very first in-house chip for powering their expanding AI systems. Alongside this, they’re planning to add AMD chips to complement their usual Nvidia hardware 🛠️💾

At one point, OpenAI considered going all-in by building its own chip factories — ambitious, but costly and time-intensive. So, for now, they’re paws-off on the “foundry” dream, focusing instead on developing custom chip designs ✨

As one of Nvidia’s biggest buyers, OpenAI relies heavily on AI chips for the compute-heavy tasks of training and running models. By designing their own chips, OpenAI could make their next AI models faster, leaner, and more efficient 😂
