On July 3, 1863, the Battle of Gettysburg, one of the most significant battles of the American Civil War, ended. This three-day battle was fought between the Union and Confederate forces in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Union’s victory, led by General George G. Meade, marked a turning point in the Civil War as it ended Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s second invasion of the North.
