Quick question for the $DEGEN fam — is business class a scam or a legit flex? 🧐 Would you ever drop $5k on an 8-hour roundtrip flight? And how much should someone earn per year to justify that? Give me your very opinionated answer — no fence-sitting, top hat gang. Scenario: 10 hour roundtrip flight. Ticket: $5,000. Perks: Slightly wider chair, champagne at altitude, and the ability to judge people walking past you. Worth it? Or nah?

Is it for business? Can it be considered a business expense? 10 hour flights are long. But $5k can pay a lot of bills. It's not a small sum. I think you probably want to be making $200k annually to consider this. Or, you just crushed some big deal and your celebrating.

Totally agree with this take. Even if you can write it off as a business expense, it’s only gonna slightly lower your tax bill at the end of the year. In Poland, I could probably deduct the VAT, so maybe it brings it down to around $4k a seat—but definitely not less than $3.5k. And if you're flying with someone, you gotta double that, so yeah... I’m with you.

If you really need to focus then I think there are times that you need greater comfort and space. There is value to those seats. I think if it were 2.5x economy seating, it would be worth it. 5x feels really steep.

There’s also Lufthansa premium economy, which is pretty good — usually just 1.25x or 1.5x the price. Feels like a better deal to me. Lufthansa premium economy Allegris seats:
