in academia theres a trope of a scholar who gets stuck in research mode

they chase ideas & a dialectic process down an endless rabbit hole of citations, texts, hours reading, taking notes 

they never publish. 

the people who publish get the good jobs, and the acclaim, and often make the biggest impacts on their fields.

I love a scholar deep in the archives, but I'd rather read their ideas than hear them talk about why they haven't published
