TikTok showed the opposite to be true. The existence of highly followed accounts was essential to creating the "American Dream" that anyone could become popular. Twitter languished bc it's algo wasn't good enough to highlight tweets from people you would like to follow, and instead *still* highlights sensational tweets

Perhaps more accurate to say highly 'liked' tiktoks. They put finger on the scale for Charli D'Amelio so kids would get the message they could get famous on tiktok easier than ig/yt, and the message stuck. Twitter's algo is still subpar and feels closer to facebook newsfeed (yuck) than tiktok fyp (yum).
