Ten or fifteen years ago Jonah Peretti pointed out that huffpo and buzzfeed recognized that viral social media is about creating opportunities for people to comment. Discouraging people from quote commenting on another post is in direct opposition to a core SM engagement pattern: expressing your opinion on a media obj.

agreed, quote casts are a conversation “fork” - splits conversation liquidity but incentivizes more conversation (I replied to this, but wouldn’t have replied to the original)
