In September 2024, a 17-year-old Italian teenager, obsessed with bodybuilding and mixed martial arts, was arrested for the murder of 42-year-old Maria Campai. 

The two had met on an online dating platform, and during their first in-person meeting, the teenager allegedly attacked Maria in his home gym, striking her with a dumbbell and strangling her. 

The 17-year-old who was not named then reportedly disposed of her body in the garden of an abandoned house in Viadana, northeast of Parma, where it was later found. 

Investigations revealed that the teenager had searched online for methods to inflict maximum harm and strangle someone with his bare hands. 

He confessed to the crime, stating he wanted to experience what it felt like to kill.
