Is your #NFT still going to be around in 20 years? The honest answer is that it depends. If you’re using IPFS, then as long as the data remains pinned to an IPFS node it’ll always be accessible, but if something goes wrong and your data is lost well… 😬

However, this approach proved unsustainable for us in the long run. To align more closely with our mission, we’ve shifted to focus on the more sustainable model of long-term @fil-foundation storage, providing a last line of defence to preserve your NFT data for years to come.

The new NFTdotStorage 🦋 As a public good we aim to make our service accessible to everyone, which includes reducing any financial barriers. Our previous unpaid service offering provided hot storage by making the NFT data available across IPFS and retrievable through the NFTdotStorage gateway.

As part of our new service, purely focused on the long-term preservation of your data, your NFT data will have to be separately onboarded to IPFS before it can be stored in NFTdotStorage. Our previous service offering has been renamed to NFTdotStorage Classic, and will continue to be available to all existing users until 30 June 2024. All NFT data you’ve already uploaded and will upload before then will continue to be safely stored and accessible via IPFS.

In 2022 the webpage yournfts.org appeared, prompting an analysis of the data by Club NFT's Nick Hladek where we learned roughly 40% of NFT’s were housed on private servers, mostly hosted by the marketplaces themselves 😱
