when you're a kid you go out in the world and the world is full of possibility

you grow up and others / and the world convinces you that that's not the case, you have to struggle, we have limited resources, and limited time and whatever 

yeah, it turns out that is wrong

When I was in 5th grade we had adults come into class and talk about their careers. My classmates then stood and announced what they wanted to be when they grew up. I listed about 4/5 things and all but one adult told me I HAVE to pick ONE. I refused.

I never lost that drive/optimism. Too much evidence otherwise.

Encyclopedia Brown, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Judy Blume, various Archie comics, Spider-Man comics, countless Scholastic books...how can a kid read all these and then be told that NOTHING is possible?

The mind boggles.
