wish id posted this earlier but fyi, generally you get a much better deal if you pay in THB instead of USD (let your home bank convert instead of their POS/ATM) i chose "no" here and my bank charged me $301 instead of their $318

Doesn’t matter where you travel, always pay in the local currency and use the scheme conversion. “On-them” conversion flows are basically a sandwich attack.

i used to live here so im super familiar with this, but i figured it's not exactly common knowledge also, here's something counterintuitive - people often advise "buy foreign currency from your home bank before you leave" - chase bank offered the worst rate of anything on this! 10kthb was quoted at about $350 by my local branch, it was literally over 15%, i couldn't believe it
