Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church, died on April 21, 2025, at the age of 88. The cause of death was a stroke and cardiac arrest. Following his death, world political and religious leaders, including Joe Biden, Emmanuel Macron and Antonio Guterres, sent messages of condolences. Some football matches in Italy were also postponed in his honor.
