i do some technical hiring a few times a year and have been surprised at how many newish (< 5 yrs experience) web devs don't know how to code vanilla html, css, and js. they only know jsx, preprocessors, frameworks, package managers, etc. vanilla dev is an underrated skill imo. not all projects require bloat!

Don’t know who needs to hear this, but knowing how to write full-fledged web apps with vanilla HTML/CSS/JavaScript should be the absolute bare minimum if you’re looking to be a professional software engineer explicitly specializing in frontend/UI in 2025. Period. Full stop.
