How did everyone get involved in web3?

AKA what’s your web3 origin story

I've had a passing interest in cryptocurrencies since BTC came on the scene. No direct involvement, just a "huh, neat" sort of interest.

I dove in head-first in March 2021 once I heard about NFTs (per the Beeple Everydays story). I had never been able to monetize my digital art until that point—oh, and I tried!

Oh I’m curious how did you try to monetise digital art before NFTs?

I tried both Indiegogo and a PayPal donation link on my web portfolio site (this was before Patreon existed). Got literally zero support, haha.

Then, as now, I licensed my art under Creative Commons, so the ask was, "support me and I can keep uploading/hosting these high-resolution images." NFTs literally solved this!
