How’s the algorithm work on here?
Do I have to post literally every day for it not to hate me? Can I even take 1 day off or will that cancel me haha

I don't think it'll cancel you, but I believe that you'll do better if you reply to more people. It's less of an algorithm thing and more just getting on people's radar. 

Posting to channels will help with reach. That's the only way to be seen by people who don't already follow you (aside from people recasting you).

I suggest trying your typical algorithm hacks from any social network: 
- Post awesome content at least daily 
- Post things that prompt people to respond 
- bait them into responding, even
- Reply to others more 
- more foot pics
