From many many hours spent looking into expedition rucksacks, I now know there are a handful of world-class cottage industry scale manufacturers with their own genius/idiosyncratic (depending on whom you ask) designs, catering to a very niche set of customers worldwide.

Less high end / luxury “brand”, but more bespoke. Like a Savile Row tailor, but way less normie.

Products that are "specialized gear" of some kind - where even the premium end of the mass produced isn't enough, and a one-person shop in a random town across the world makes exactly what you want. What else might fall in this category? I know it's true for musical instruments (guitars atleast), and sports equipment.
