TikTok has announced it's going to shut down in the U.S. this Sunday, January 19th, unless the Biden administration intervenes. It's asking the government for "a clear statement" that will protect companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Oracle from legal consequences in case they continue to offer TikTok on their platforms. This comes after the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to enforce the law requiring the sale of ownership of TikTok's parent company, ByteDance.
However, the Biden administration postponed any decision and passed it to the next Trump administration, that will be in office on January 20. TikTok is warning that if it does not receive relief immediately, then it will go offline and that will affect millions of users in the U.S.
