Okay Japan… what’s up with the napkin situation? As someone who was raised to essentially wipe their mouth after every bite, the total absence of napkins is confusing. What am I doing wrong? cc @yuki and @consome

When eating ramen and slurping enthusiastically I feel like I end up wearing half the bowl. Surely you don’t just chill with that on your jibs?

Okay, that matches the spots I have seen that in. On two occasions now I have had nice Japanese moms give me wet wipes when they saw I didn’t have anything 😅 I guess I need to start carrying my own, lol.

Actually, it depends on the restaurants 😄
If you go to a casual restaurant, it won't have napkins probably.
But in terms of proper one, it should have😄

They had facial tissues. Those feel a bit thin for general wiping though. Is that the intended use?

Thinking back: I’ve gotten moist towelettes at a few places. Maybe I’m getting hung up on “sturdy” dry napkins though?

Weird, most of restaurants should have napkins, and I used ton of napkins every time lol
