It's a fun experience where 65 artists contributed their code snippets to create a massive collaborative experiment.

I am honoured to be one of these artists. My humble contribution is called Ratio, and this is a tiny thread about it. 💜

The name Ratio refers to Italian rationalism in architecture, specifically to the Square Colosseum (Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana or Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro) by Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto La Padula, and Mario Romano. The building has a fascinating history.

It was conceived as a symbol of the superiority of Italian... fascist architecture. Originally built for Esposizione Universale Roma to celebrate 20 years of the fascist regime, it never served its original purpose as the exposition didn't take place. It took heavy damage and, for years, stood abandoned.

The Square Colosseum was repurposed many times after the war to avoid its fascist association. The whole zone was used as a financial district and served as a housing and administrative zone during the 1960 Olympics. Today, the building is the headquarters of the luxury fashion brand Fendi.

Ratio is a study of light and reflection.

The composition is the result of an aggregation of buildings that we don't see. What we see is their reflection on water on which they stand. The reflection mixes with shadows on the surface and on buildings and is occluded by white silhouettes that align in the axonometry.
