I interpret the A in DAO to be part automation (autonomy as you describe, self-executing contracts) and part human (autonomy to act within and in behalf of the DAO). 

When you say the automation being delivered via smart contracts is why the D in DAO is valid, what do you mean by valid? Like in a formal logic sense?
