My name indeed is Monika. This is not a pseudonym but my real name. My last name is one of the most common in existence, so I decided to leave it out. I didn't want to use an 'artist name' because my works reflect who I am. Using just my real first name felt natural and logical.

I was born and raised on a small farm in Germany, focused mainly on agriculture with only a few farm animals. In winter, we spent a lot of time together as a family. Both my parents were skilled in traditional crafts like cooking old recipes, needlework, and woodworking.

During that time, I discovered my love for painting and used every material I could find to add a personal touch to each work. After finishing school, I went into the hotel and restaurant business, spending the first 10 years of my career traveling and working abroad.

I worked + lived in Austria, the UK, the Emirates, New Zealand, and briefly in India. I met so many people and loved exploring different cultures, languages, and cuisines. I always found time to paint, but I stored the artworks away, thinking they were 'just for myself'.

Without a steady circle of friends and because I didn't stay in one place for long, I packed countless suitcases and sent many parcels. Over time, my paintings were forgotten. I also assumed they -and by extension, I- weren't good enough anyway.

In late 2020, we got involved in crypto, and in July 2021, we dove into the world of smart contracts and NFTs. With nothing to lose, we minted our first artworks on Ethereum—and I had my first two NFT sales just 24 days later!

Over time, I expanded my skills and developed concepts and Easter eggs that might not be immediately noticeable. I try to have 'a plan' + stick to it, minting on specific days + times. My titles often involve wordplay, though some of these details are lost in the hectics of web3.

I will start with the "Dream BIG" collection on SuperRare: While I published my debut NFT on SuperRare on my birthday on Dec 12th 2022 via SuperRare Spaces, I am now a full SR artist and will mint artworks on my own Smart Contract on Manifold and list them via SuperRare. "Dream BIG" is a series of acrylic paintings on large canvases (mostly 120x80cm / ~47x31"). I will start with the drop of the first two works on New Year's 2025 with the third piece already visible in previews. I am always "afraid" of large canvases right until the first drop of paint. It sometimes takes me weeks to "get" there.
