Soviet Repression Back In Full Swing: Russia Persecutes Indigenous Groups

🟢Russia is intensifying its crackdown on Indigenous groups, including the Sami people, with dozens of organizations now labeled as “terrorists and extremists.” Sami activists warn that this forces many to hide their identity or live in exile, fearing imprisonment for simply expressing their heritage. 

🟢Sami activists in exile, like Andrei Danilov, say their people are becoming “migrants on their own land“ as Russia pressures them to develop sacred lands, threatening cultural and environmental destruction. 

The repression is reminiscent of Soviet-era tactics, with increasing persecution targeting anyone connected to Indigenous organizations.
