Mahatma Gandhi (1869–1948) was an Indian leader who played a key role in India's struggle for independence from British rule. He is known for his philosophy of nonviolent resistance, or Satyagraha, which inspired movements for civil rights and freedom worldwide. Gandhi led peaceful protests, including the Salt March, and promoted self-reliance, simplicity, and unity among Indians. His efforts ultimately contributed to India gaining independence in 1947.
