Goood morning sunshines, a lot of times I post about my love for German cakes , today I learnt some ℹ️ about it 🕵️‍♀️: In Germany, eating cake with coffee is a long-standing tradition known as Kaffee und Kuchen (literally ☕️ and 🍰 ). This custom dates back to the 17th century and became particularly popular in the 19th century, influenced by aristocratic and bourgeois culture. 1. Social Tradition: Kaffee und Kuchen is typically enjoyed in the afternoon, much like British afternoon tea. It provides an opportunity for people to gather, relax, and socialize whether at home or in a café fostering a sense of community. 2.Complementary Flavors: The slight bitterness of coffee complements the sweetness of fruit-based cakes, or cheesecakes, offering a well balanced and satisfying taste experience. 3.Cultural Ritual: After WWII, as coffee became more widely accessible, this practice evolved into an everyday luxury. It’s seen as a moment of indulgence, offering a pleasant break in the day.
