Just finished the Silmarillion. Arduous but well worth it. Makes we want to reread the LoTR. Surprising how the Rings of Power were part of a bookend Age, and how ancient Galadriel was.

Silmarillion is one of those books that feels like a slog, but after you read it you feel more enlightened. The names are the hardest part. Glorfindel, Fingolfin, Ginfolgin, etc. There are more than 5 letters you can use in names, elves!

We don't read the Silmarillion because it's a great book, but because it makes the other books even more enjoyable. And about Galadriel, and the other really old elves, it's quite an exercise to think how they must feel being thousands of years old, the exile from Valinor, all the wars...
