It seems the protagonist arc of metamodernism is more or less coming to terms with the fact we are on an absurd interactive ride, and we can enjoy it and that's enough. Is this close to the mark?

Depends on the implementation and only just recently acquired the vocab, but I'd call that neutral form metamodernism Strong form is "Acknowledgement of Absurd" + "All we can do is enjoy it" Neutral form is "We can enjoy it and that's enough" Weak form is "We can enjoy it"

I don't think enjoyment is the outcome: sincerity is. So, it can be in different directions. An oscillation of breaking down of conventions (postmodernism) and sincerity (modernism). eg, The Rehearsal from Nathan Fielder is about the absurdness and sincerity of not being prepared.

We can enjoy it, wait, we can do something about it, but damn, it never stops, so let’s do something about, enjoy it, but be okay that it will never be perfect, so let’s enjoy together, as a community, if not, what else do we have.
