I think it’s also a great way to “softly” learn independence. 

Going straight from high school to the “real world” could be fairly jarring but the setup of college works fairly well to create at least some kind of transition to post-school life.

college was an amazing experience for me. See a lot of people criticizing college but I wouldn't give up those years for anything

For real, it's way better than think just about the obligations. Being positive helps in a lot of fields in life, or even all.
