I find the first portrayal to be a deeper version of the character. Both are good films but the first film in my opinion was a better at showing the way society treats and causes mental illness as well as a more grounded origin story for one of the greatest villains in comic book history. The new joker film doesn’t feel right for a sequel and the style feels jarring when compared to the first film. The choice to make the film a Chicago like musical is interesting but I feel it would have been better suited for a stand alone film.
