Capybaras near Buenos Aires There are a lot of interesting animals in South American cities. Right in Buenos Aires itself, you can find nutria on several lakes. (https://t.me/see_ya_blog/2654) Hundreds of giant Patagonian mar hares walk in one central park. (https://t.me/see_ya_blog/2644 ) And very close to the capital there are the largest rodents in the world: capybaras. In Spanish they are called carpinchos. Capybaras are close relatives of the agouti, which are found in abundance in the forests of Ecuador and Panama, (https://t.me/see_ya_blog/2393 ) and guinea pigs, which are still eaten in large numbers in several Latin American countries. (https://t.me/see_ya_blog/722 ) Capybaras, fortunately, are not eaten in Argentina. But not everyone here likes them either. Nordelta is a small town 40 kilometers north of Buenos Aires. It was founded recently in 1999. Today, only about 25,000 people live here. And a bunch of capybaras. They walk right through the streets, not really reacting to a person.
