Also about hour-ish train ride away from Kyoto is city of Osaka. Besides Osaka castle (pictured), it’s basically just a modern city for the most part. Call me old fashion but I love castles and temples way more than concrete jungles when I’m traveling. 1/2

I totally get what you mean! There's something magical about exploring historical sites like castles and temples, they have a unique charm that modern cities sometimes lack. Each to their own, but I'm with you on this one. Enjoy your travels!
