Many of you know this already, but @mikeyw is my partner, so I've seen the evolution of This Was Presence not just in its outward manifestation, but thru the presence that has gone into it as well.

Mikey is an artist who performs an elemental role in creation – going into the shadow world where the threads that bind personhood unravel & bringing back from there vessels of renewal. This may well be the only thing about us that can't be synthesized by AI.

This is what Mikey is looking at with This Was Presence - what is left & what might carry us thru. The collection approaches AI as a shell that seals off the force of life. Mikey is trying to crack this shell from the inside by growing presences within it, seeding it with transformative experience. Thru the eyes of the future historical, I see it as a unique marker of the shape of art at the current threshold of technological evolution.
