bravo bringing attention to this. it's contributed greatly to the effective stalemate in social/governmental progress perhaps it's helpful to formulate a term. for instance, "ad hominem" is a terse phrase that can neutralize attempts at anti-progress, where the goal is to disrupt. but if you had to explain "ad hominem" every time, discussions and hence progress are more difficult. "fringe attack" β€” an irrelevant fallacy that seeks to magnify the behavior of the fringe as representative of the group sentiment held by the supermajority ^ just made that up, but maybe we can workshop it. we need to reduce ideas to vocabulary as a first step. not-fun fact: we didn't know how to talk about "genocide" until Raphael Lemkin coined the word https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irrelevant_conclusion

in the past weeks, i've loosened my brain enough to ask, "wait, why is there an equals sign in reality?" i understand in math because it fits the axioms we made up. the ideal gas law is good at illustrating this, where PV = nRT. Importantly, pressure and volume are on one side, temperature on the other. is the equals sign kinda like symmetry? even if it's an imperfect fit, is that a helpful way to think? i cannot ever hope to be "right" about anything with regards to human discovery, but i can hope that i'm wrong in the right way. that is, leading others to discover the next thing. perhaps that is the greatest honor a human mind may achieve. but also remember to play frisbee and laugh until you cry, and cry until you're done and can resume laughing

saw John Malkovich with the Oregon Symphony last night. it occurs to me that he's straight-up using his notoriety to bolster the arts. the premise is he talks smack about classical music as they play, adding historical tidbits and real talk about the state of art and music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO59zM-Pv2Y

love it. one of the next things I want to learn about is the lattice structure of the (or a) crystal scientists use to create entangled photons. Something something "spontaneous parametric down-conversion" but I want to know whyyy

Alexander Unzicker covers the recent work of a young man named Jonathan Fay. Fay has revitalized work by an Egyptian scientist named Sciama from the 1950s, exploring how inertia fits into relativity. the gravitational constant is dynamic to our universe's conditions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpQ0T7rDWm0&t=1046s

in the past couple years, i remind myself to drive home in a path that includes beauty. there's on wide road with trees that lean to greet you. might not be the most efficient path, but that's kind of the point

genuinely curious if anyone knows (or is) founders in web3 who have made revenue from ideas that aren't DeFi-adjacent. liquid staking counts as DeFi-adjacent. as a firsthand failed founder, i don't believe product market fit exists in web3 in 2024, but think we can have a real conversation about what to do.

if anyone can tutor me on Bell's Inequality, I'm happy to pay I feel close to understanding it, but feel that I'm missing something obvious that has to do with how they experimentally tested this. My favorite video on the subject is by Olivia Lane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OM0jSTeeBg&t=185s

i'll be vague, but basically you have the opportunity to make several strategic guesses, and these will change, and by the end of the campaign we genuinely didn't know who was ahead. darn good balance i'd say remember: never underestimate your ability to screw other people over. for survival of course
