The two citypop songs seeing a resurgence of interest right now, “Stay with Me” from 1979 and “Plastic Love” from 1984, capture an interesting cultural shift. “Stay with Me” glorifies love and begs for more, as many in the seventies did. “Plastic Love” gives up on love and embraces hedonism, as many in the eighties did.
