I would engage with anyone consistently replying because if you think like that, you won't find new friends and if everyone does that, new users won't have a chance to grow.
As for the bots, you can share pictures or videos with a text that will trick the bots because they can't read the text in photos (yet!) to comment unrelated replies. I did this with this cast and reported the comments encouraging me to touch grass and they disappeared!
