If a certain biological trait is inherent in almost every person, it means that it developed for a reason and there were reasons for it. One of these traits is a feeling of fear or obvious discomfort when seeing things that are very similar to people, but at the same time are not people. This is the so-called “uncanny valley” effect, a phenomenon based on a hypothesis formulated by Japanese robotics scientist and engineer Masahiro Mori. It implies that a robot or other object that looks or acts approximately like a human (but not exactly like a real one) causes hostility and disgust in human observers. This means that people once had a reason to be afraid of something that looks human, but is not.
