It’s always funny that the degen dot tips and @nikolaiii’s dune query say two different things again. It's very hard to discern what the actual numbers are wonder if I could get cc @jacek to say where we should be checking the actually data please.

Farcaster hubs don’t have strong consistency. There are many reasons but one is that it makes it less practical for financial use cases because of the lack of double spend protection. 


The irony is that this led to “tipping seasons” which became a successful meta, despite or maybe because of the constraints

a brief (somewhat technical) explainer on $DEGEN allowance data:

Dune is the “source of truth”, but it is often wrong because it’s out of sync with the Farcaster network, or because of missing/incorrect OpenRank data. in practice, we have seen both failure modes frequently. 

the official API then syncs its data from Dune, adding yet another failure mode (which we are currently seeing…the official API isn’t serving data for the current tipping day [17-08] which is why @degentipbot.eth is down rn).

additionally, Farcaster itself doesn’t guarantee strong consistency, so there technically isn’t ever a single correct answer for allowance data. this is a minor point and doesn’t really matter much.

hopefully this helps explain why frames, Dune, APIs, website, etc. frequently disagree; it’s because issues in the source data are allowed to run rampant.
