Think there’s more context here - the one who made the offer posted about it.  The founder is working full time jobs and can’t break out to focus on the side hustle / project, proposed raise is really just to allow him to go FT on it.

Agree it is not a great look and I don't have all of the details.  Interesting to see how much there was beyond the initial headline & reaction though.
