Today, we celebrate the life and work of Helen Layfield Bradley, an English artist born on this day in 1900 in Lees, Lancashire.
It wasn’t until her 60s that she ventured into painting. Her motivation? To share vivid memories of her childhood with her grandchildren. Little did she know, this heartfelt endeavor would reveal her extraordinary talent and lead to a celebrated career as an artist.
Bradley’s artwork often features endearing characters and lively scenes from her youth, painted in warm pastels. A hallmark of her style is the soft, dreamlike quality she achieved by blending her skies with the palm of her hand, creating an atmosphere of nostalgia and tranquility.
