Birth and Early Life
Nezha was born during the Shang Dynasty to General Li Jing and his wife, Lady Yin. His birth was extraordinary—he emerged from his mother’s womb as a glowing ball of flesh. His father, frightened by this unnatural phenomenon, attacked the ball with his sword. To everyone’s surprise, the ball split open, revealing a fully formed boy who immediately began running and speaking. A Taoist immortal, Taiyi Zhenren, recognized the child’s divine nature and took him as his disciple, giving him the name Nezha.
