Planting trees under the facade of protected parks, forests, and natural reserves. But really it functions to cover up the massacre of the indigenous population. Though nowhere near the scale of Israel’s greenwashing, I think of how so many of our most adored green spaces are there because of violent displacement. Like the development of Central Park in NYC—only there for us to enjoy because the city used eminent domain to tear down what was Seneca Village, the first neighborhood in the city to be founded by free Black Americans, and entirely disperse its inhabitants. https://slowfactory.earth/readings/green-colonialism-in-palestine/
